“[font=Verdana][size=3]In the past couple of days I've been reading the updates on the devastating earthquake that struck the country just over two days ago. The heartrending reports, both in writing and in pictures depict the massive destrcution the quake has brought about. I read reports of rescuers trying to brave the weather to reach the victims, anxious parents hoping to see their school-going children coming out of rubble alive; I also saw pictures of school buildings razed to the ground with hundreds of students inside, people mourning over the death of their family, and dead bodies, some of them children. It's absolutely tragic, a total calamity. I could hardly fight back my tears when I read in one report rescuers working at a collapsed school building would let off fire crackers whenever a body was brought up from the debris - a way to send them off on their final journey. The reason I've given this journal the title [color=magenta]'Amazing Grace'[/color] as [color=magenta]this is the hymn often sung or played at burials in most English-speaking countries[/color]. Though the hymn was originally written (in 1772 by John Newton) in praise of God's grace, I have one, just one question to ask God: 'Why, for God's sake, have You taken away the lives of so many children?'. And to those who have suffered pain, anguish and loss in this tragedy, my heart goes out to you and the world will not forget you and the loved ones you've lost...
[/size][/font][font=Tahoma][i]Postcript: This catastrophe reminds us how fragile our lives can be - one minute you're here, the next you're gone! Guess it's time to give more thoughts to relationships and attention to people around us than material wealth and possessions. I came close to having to live with regrets for the rest of my life until I got assurance that a close family friend of mine (who I had a misunderstanding with just about a month ago) and her family living in the disaster-stricken area were all right.
